What Makes the Grandista Line Different

Most collectors entering the anime figure space face the same trap: spending serious money on small, uninspiring statues that disappear on a shelf. Banpresto solved this problem definitively with the Grandista line. Known for being some of the largest and most detailed prize figures on the market, the Grandista line focuses on a “Grand” scale, typically standing at a towering 10 to 11 inches (25–28 cm) tall. That scale changes everything about how a figure reads in a display case.

However, size alone does not justify collector attention. Grandista figures are PVC statues released under Bandai Spirits’ Banpresto brand, essentially oversized prize figures: large, non-articulated collectibles designed to look as impressive as possible. The non-articulated format is a deliberate design choice. Grandista figures are non-articulated PVC statues, and this allows for a much higher level of detail in the sculpt compared to action figures. For display-focused collectors, that trade-off is obvious.

Grandista vs. Grandista Nero: Know the Difference

You will often see “Grandista Nero” on shelves. Grandista Nero is the premium overseas version, often including extra accessories like swappable heads, arms, or “Manga Dimensions” paint jobs. Additionally, the Nero sub-line pushes finish quality further. These premium versions often include additional interchangeable parts, such as alternate facial expressions or translucent energy effects, and feature enhanced paint applications with deeper shading. For collectors prioritizing shelf impact over volume, Nero is the stronger buy. That said, the standard Grandista line still delivers formidable value at its price point.

Manga Dimensions: The Visual Signature

Some Grandista figures feature a special “Manga Dimensions” finish. This unique coloring mimics manga art shading, using black, white tones, and halftones to make the statue look like it sprang right off the printed page. First introduced on Dragon Ball characters, this treatment has since expanded across franchises. It remains one of the most distinctive paint techniques in the prize figure category.

The Dragon Ball Z Grandista Tier List

Dragon Ball Z is the franchise that built Banpresto’s reputation, and the Grandista line reflects that history clearly. The Grandista line includes multiple versions of popular characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan, each depicted in different outfits or forms, for example Super Saiyan. The depth of the roster means collectors can build meaningful themed displays rather than isolated one-offs.

Son Goku SSJ Grandista II

The Dragon Ball Z Son Goku SSJ Grandista II by Bandai Spirits is the benchmark release for this character. This figure stands over 10 inches (25 cm) tall and displays Vegeta in his Super Saiyan state while in a popular pose, and the Goku counterpart applies the same formula with equally commanding results. The aura sculpting on this release is exceptional, with translucent energy effects that reinforce the Super Saiyan transformation visually. For collectors new to the line, this is the correct entry point.
