The Case FOR My Hero Academia Collectibles

A Franchise with Genuine Staying Power

Banpresto, operating under Bandai Spirits, produces the backbone of the MHA figure market. Their prize figures offer exceptional paint detail, dynamic poses, and licensed authenticity, all at price points that serious collectors can stack without guilt. The Amazing Heroes Plus series and the Maximatic line both punch well above their weight class. The MAXIMATIC series, in particular, emphasises overwhelming volume and high satisfaction, with new entries like Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo THE BEGINNING already generating pre-announcement buzz for September 2026 release.

To see how the same manufacturer handles a newer property, read our guide to Kaiju No. 8 statues, where the Grandista release is compared with premium statues.

Moreover, the franchise fundamentals remain iron-clad. Kohei Horikoshi wrapped the My Hero Academia manga with chapter 430 in Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2024, closing a ten-year run. That completion event historically triggers a collectibles surge, not a collapse. Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece all proved it: ending a saga mints nostalgia and drives long-term demand.

Explore the full collection
Figures, art toys & limited editions, shipped across Europe from France.

Shop now →

The secondary market data backs the bull case. Secondary markets report 40% higher resale values for sealed figures from major releases like the Final War arc series, reflecting sustained collector confidence. Additionally, limited editions from established manufacturers appreciate 15 to 30% annually for verified collectible-grade pieces.

For example, the Ichiban Kuji lottery system creates natural scarcity. The Ichiban Kuji “A Story of Reaching Out Forever” villain prize set will spike after the kuji sells out in Japanese convenience stores. Collectors who secure these early hold genuine leverage. Similarly, villain figures carry disproportionate upside. Toga ranks as the most-searched villain figure on the Japanese secondary market, which signals demand that far outpaces supply on popular sculpts.

Shueisha already confirmed four new Ultra MHA projects for 2026, including a special episode adapting the extra manga chapter. Beyond that, new figure announcements will accompany each release event. First-run production runs on these tie-in pieces tend to sell through fast at Japanese retail. Collectors who move early capture retail price. Everyone else pays secondary market premium.

Still, the contra-argument carries real weight. Bandai and Banpresto have released MHA figures relentlessly since 2016. The sheer volume dilutes urgency. The secondary market for standard pieces, such as S.H.Figuarts All Might (Golden Age), runs ¥8,000 to ¥12,000 used, and the budget Banpresto Grandista All Might sits at ¥3,500 to ¥5,500. For casual entries in a saturated line, those prices rarely climb meaningfully. Collectors who buy without discrimination end up with shelves full of figures that tread water.

In contrast, the franchise lacks the Japanese streetwear crossover cachet that supercharges resale for lines tied to designers like Medicom Toy collaborations or artists with gallery credibility. MHA figures live and die on franchise loyalty, not on crossover cultural capital. That limits the ceiling for most standard releases.

Furthermore, counterfeit infiltration in this franchise runs high. Selecting authentic My Hero Academia figures demands methodical verification of materials, licensing, and seller credibility, not impulse buying based on aesthetics alone. Every box must carry the Shueisha copyright mark and manufacturer hologram. Collectors should allocate budgets toward authenticated new purchases rather than chasing secondhand deals where counterfeits proliferate. A mint sealed Banpresto piece from an authorised retailer always beats an uncertified “deal” that erodes resale potential.

Explore the full collection
Figures, art toys & limited editions, shipped across Europe from France.

Shop now →

Most importantly, character selection matters enormously in this market. Deku and Bakugo drive 80% of collector demand. Secondary characters, even fan favourites like Kirishima or Tokoyami, show tepid secondary market performance outside of chase-tier Ichiban Kuji prizes. Collectors who build wide rather than deep often find their portfolio underperforms.

Buy if you concentrate on Deku and Bakugo across premium lines and final-season releases. If you purchase sealed, authenticated pieces from authorised sources. And if you understand that patience, not panic-buying, builds a collection with genuine secondary market upside. 2026 is the last window before real scarcity hits, and that matters most for final-arc figure releases tied directly to the manga’s conclusion.

Additionally, buy if you treat Banpresto prize figures as the entry point, not the ceiling. These sculpts offer legitimately impressive detail at accessible price points. The Izuku Midoriya Final Season Figure by Banpresto (€45) and the Katsuki Bakugo Amazing Heroes Plus Figure by Banpresto (€32) represent exactly the kind of sealed, authenticated, character-targeted pieces that belong in a serious MHA collection.

!["Rare]("https://rareinventory.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cropped-Rare-Inventory-Logo-2.png"){kind=logo}
