The auction hammer falls. A sealed KAWS grey together figure, box crisp and unhandled, clears three times its $310 (about €275) retail price without a single moment of hesitation from the room. That scene played out repeatedly through 2021 and 2022, and the trajectory for this specific piece, the TOGETHER Grey, has only grown more interesting since. This is the KAWS grey together figure market outlook every serious collector needs right now.

The KAWS TOGETHER Grey (2018) stands as one of the most emotionally resonant and financially durable open-edition vinyl figures Brian Donnelly ever released. Collectors who hold sealed examples in 2026 sit on a piece that has multiplied well beyond its retail entry point and shows no sign of structural reversal. The combination of a universally legible concept, exhibition-backed provenance, and KAWS’s relentlessly expanding cultural footprint makes this figure a cornerstone, not a footnote, in any serious collection.

What Is the KAWS Grey Together Figure and Why Does It Matter?

KAWS released the TOGETHER Grey figure exclusively through KAWSONE on June 12, 2018. The figure features two interlocked Companions hugging and stands at 11.5 inches (29 cm) tall, with each piece retailing at $310 (about €275). The vinyl uses a tonal grey design with KAWS’s classic eye and hand motifs highlighted in black.

Prior to its vinyl release, large-scale TOGETHER sculptures appeared at KAWS exhibitions at the More Gallery in Switzerland and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in Texas during 2016. That exhibition history matters enormously for valuation. Figures grounded in major institutional shows carry a legitimacy that pure commercial drops simply do not. The TOGETHER Grey carries both.

Over the past two decades, KAWS figures, instantly recognisable for their crossed-out eyes, rounded forms and emotional ambiguity, have shifted from niche vinyl releases to major exhibitions, public sculptures and serious private collections. The TOGETHER concept, two Companions embracing, sits at the emotional core of that shift. It communicates vulnerability and connection without a single word. That kind of legibility travels across cultures, which is precisely why the Japanese secondary market treats it so differently from Western buyers. More on that below.

Prediction 1: The KAWS Grey Together Figure Floor Price Firms at 2.5x Retail (High Confidence)

Over the past 10 years, KAWS has delivered an average return of 16.8%, while average auction sale prices for paintings and prints have risen by 184% since 2010. The vinyl market tracks that broader momentum but with sharper spikes around new release windows. The TOGETHER Grey benefits from a specific supply dynamic: it released as an open edition, meaning no stated production cap, yet the actual number of sealed, unhandled examples in circulation shrinks every year as collectors open figures for display.

""

Expect the floor for a mint-in-box TOGETHER Grey to hold firmly above $750 (about €670) through early 2027. A limited 11-inch (28 cm) Companion priced below $400 (about €355) is almost certainly counterfeit or stolen, with $400 (about €355) representing the lowest authentic transaction point in 2025 according to large comparable-sale datasets. The TOGETHER Grey, with its dual-figure form and exhibition backstory, commands a meaningful premium above that floor. Confidence: high.

Open Edition vs. Sealed Condition Premium

Open editions form the floor of the KAWS market. They will not appreciate dramatically, but they also will not depreciate if condition stays preserved. However, sealed TOGETHER Grey examples behave differently from a standard open-edition Companion precisely because the TOGETHER format stopped after one wave. Buyers who crack the seal accept an immediate 30 to 40 percent discount to sealed-condition pricing. Keep the box.

Prediction 2: New KAWS Drops Accelerate Interest in KAWS Grey Together, Not Away From It (High Confidence)

Some collectors worry that a flood of new KAWS product dilutes attention from 2018-era pieces. The opposite happens. KAWS’s new FELLOWS vinyl figure collection announced in July 2026 and his MLB collaboration with the Yankees and Dodgers both funnel new buyers into the ecosystem who then search backward through the catalog. The TOGETHER Grey sits squarely in the path of that discovery journey.

Few contemporary artists move as freely between art, design and popular culture as KAWS. Each new licensing wave, whether MLB, UNIQLO, or gallery exhibitions, creates a fresh wave of first-time buyers who quickly learn that the 2018-era figures represent the artist’s most emotionally coherent period. Moreover, KAWS figures, particularly the Companion, experience substantial price increases due to growing demand and limited availability, making them increasingly attractive as art investments. New product feeds, not cannibalizes, that demand. Confidence: high.

The Japanese Market Factor

Medicom Toy and Japanese collector culture treat KAWS vinyl with a seriousness that Western buyers still underestimate. Japan prices sealed figures in immaculate condition at meaningful premiums to Western secondary market comps, particularly for emotionally expressive designs like TOGETHER. Additionally, KAWS’s 2026 UNIQLO capsule maintained his profile directly with Japanese retail consumers, sustaining the pipeline of aspirational collectors who graduate upward to vintage vinyl. The TOGETHER Grey, in its subdued colorway, reads as particularly mature to Japanese taste. That preference drives sustained import demand from Europe and North America into Japanese collector networks.

Prediction 3: Grey Outperforms Black in the 12-Month Outlook (Medium Confidence)

Historically, black colorways across the KAWS catalog command a slight premium due to the stark contrast of the yellow eye motifs. The TOGETHER Black makes that visual argument compellingly. However, the Grey colorway increasingly separates itself on the secondary market for a different reason: restraint. As the broader collectibles market matures, serious collectors and auction houses alike gravitate toward subtlety over maximalism.

TOGETHER editions vary in color across Grey, Brown, and Black, with market values in 2026 expected to range from $2,500 to $8,000 (about €2,230–7,130) depending on color and size. That range reflects exactly the kind of colorway premium differentiation serious collectors must track. The Grey, currently the mid-tier in that range, has the most room to close the gap upward. Confidence: medium.

Colorway
2018 Retail
2026 Market Range
12-Month Momentum

TOGETHER Grey
$310
$750, $1,100 (sealed)
Positive, closing gap to Black

TOGETHER Black
$310
$900, $1,300 (sealed)
Stable, premium holds

TOGETHER Brown
$310
$600, $900 (sealed)
Neutral, lower visibility

Prediction 4: Counterfeit Pressure Intensifies, Making Authentication the Defining Collector Skill (High Confidence)

Authentication is paramount when purchasing KAWS figures, requiring careful examination of details, packaging, and potentially professional verification to avoid fakes. The TOGETHER Grey presents specific authentication challenges because its monochromatic palette means subtle molding differences are harder to spot than on the high-contrast Black version.

First, verify the box. Authentic TOGETHER Grey packaging carries consistent typography and a specific matte finish that replica manufacturers consistently get wrong. Second, examine the seam lines on the Companions’ torsos. Genuine Medicom Toy production shows minimal flash on the seam, while most fakes show visible overflow. Third, the hand motifs. Authentic pieces present clean, slightly recessed black paint in the eye and hand motifs. Overpaint that bleeds past the recessed area is an immediate red flag. Real pieces do not sell below floor unless the seller does not know what they have, and that is increasingly rare. Trust that principle, and treat any TOGETHER Grey below $600 (about €535) sealed as suspect until proven otherwise. Confidence: high.

PSA Grading and the KAWS Vinyl Certification Gap

PSA grading for vinyl figures remains nascent compared to trading cards and sneakers, yet it grows steadily. A PSA-graded TOGETHER Grey carries a meaningful liquidity premium because it removes authentication friction entirely at the point of resale. Collectors building for long-term exit should strongly consider submitting sealed examples now, before a rush creates grading backlogs. The certification gap represents the single most actionable collector move available on this piece in the next 12 months. Similarly, sourcing from vetted dealers removes that authentication burden entirely at the point of purchase.

Beyond the TOGETHER Grey, serious KAWS collectors often diversify across adjacent designer collectibles. For example, the Mr Keychain Ornament Pharrell by Mr Grey Hat represents exactly the kind of crossover artist-designer piece that occupies the same collector shelf space and demographic as KAWS vinyl. Good Smile Company and Kotobukiya similarly produce high-quality vinyl figures that serious collectors hold alongside KAWS pieces.

Collector Verdict: Buy the KAWS Grey Together Figure Now

The TOGETHER Grey occupies a structural position in the KAWS catalog that pure open-edition Companions do not: institutional exhibition history, a dual-figure format that stopped after one release wave, and a colorway that reads with increasing sophistication as the market matures. Once an edition sells out, it is gone, and that reflects genuine scarcity rather than artificial inflation. Sealed examples in 2026 represent one of the cleaner risk-reward propositions in the entire KAWS vinyl universe. Prioritize mint box condition. Insist on authentication documentation. And move before the next KAWS institutional announcement pushes the floor upward again.

How much is a KAWS figure like the TOGETHER Grey worth in 2026?

A sealed, mint-in-box KAWS TOGETHER Grey commands approximately $750 to $1,100 (about €670–980) on the secondary market in 2026, depending on box condition and provenance. Each figure retailed at $310 (about €275) at launch. Opened examples without boxes trade significantly lower and carry greater counterfeit risk. Always buy sealed from authenticated sources.

How big is the KAWS TOGETHER Grey figure?

The figure features two interlocked Companions hugging and stands at 11.5 inches (29 cm) tall. Its footprint measures approximately 10 by 6 by 5.5 inches (14 cm), making it a substantial shelf presence. Plan accordingly: this piece demands dedicated display space, not a crowded shelf.

How much do KAWS figures cost at retail versus resale?

Many original KAWS releases sold for under $100 (about €89) at retail, yet the same pieces now regularly trade for tens of thousands on the secondary market. The TOGETHER Grey entered at $310 (about €275) retail and now sits at multiples of that. Over the past 10 years, KAWS has delivered an average return of 16.8%. The retail-to-resale gap on TOGETHER Grey specifically reflects genuine scarcity as sealed examples disappear into long-term collections.

Is the KAWS TOGETHER Grey figure a good investment?

For collectors who buy authenticated, sealed examples and hold through major KAWS cultural moments, the TOGETHER Grey has proven its appreciation case repeatedly. Since his first auction appearance in 2015, the public market for KAWS has reached approximately $230.3 million (about €205.3 million) in total sales, with auction volume doubling over the last decade. The TOGETHER Grey specifically benefits from its dual-figure format and institutional exhibition history. Still, treat it as a collectible first and an investment second. Condition preservation is everything.
