That number matters because the manga had already finished more than a year earlier. Most series fade once the last chapter prints. Instead, Gege Akutami’s story kept outselling almost everything on Japanese shelves, and the character driving that demand is the one who lost. As a result, the Sukuna figure Maximatic Special Ver. from Banpresto went from an afterthought prize release to a piece European collectors now hunt by name. I passed on it twice, first in 2022 and again in spring 2025. Below are the mistakes that cost me, so you can skip them.

Collectors want the Sukuna Maximatic Special Ver. because it is the only widely distributed 21 cm Sukuna with Banpresto’s hand-brushed shading, released on April 17, 2025, right as the King of Curses became the face of the post-Shinjuku fandom. The figure repaints the April 2022 Maximatic sculpt with extra brush painting. Moreover, it arrived at a prize-figure price just as the manga passed 150 million copies in circulation.

<div data-block-name="woocommerce/single-product" data-product-id="3458" Is a New Sculpt

I made this error first. Collectors see “Special Ver.” and expect a new pose. However, Banpresto built this release on the original MAXIMATIC THE SUKUNA sculpt from April 2022. The company changed the paint, not the body. That matters because you may already own the silhouette.

What Banpresto actually changed

The original stands 21 cm in PVC and ABS, non-articulated, with Sukuna’s fist clenched and that sadistic grin. For the Special Ver., Banpresto kept every millimetre of that sculpt. Instead, the factory added additional brush painting over the base coat. In practice, that means deeper shadows across the chest markings, more graded skin tones, and sharper separation between the kimono and the body. Because of this, the two versions photograph very differently under shelf lighting, even though they share a mould.

Detail

Maximatic The Sukuna (2022)

Maximatic Sukuna Special Ver. (2025)

Release

April 2022

April 17, 2025

Height

21 cm

21 cm

Material

PVC and ABS

PVC and ABS

Paint

Standard prize finish

Additional hand brush painting

Sculpt

Original

Identical body, repainted

So, which one should you buy? If you own neither, the Special Ver. wins outright because the shading sells the character. In contrast, if you already have the 2022 release, you are buying a paint upgrade, and you should decide if that justifies a second Sukuna on the shelf. For me, it did.

Mistake 2: Waiting for Sukuna Demand to Cool After the Manga Ended

This was my second, more expensive mistake. Chapter 271 ran in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 44 on September 30, 2024, closing the Shinjuku Showdown. I assumed interest would drop once the story was done. Instead, the opposite happened.

Why the ending made Sukuna bigger

First, Shueisha released the final two volumes, 29 and 30, together on December 25, 2024, which pushed Sukuna’s last fight onto every bookshop table in Japan at Christmas. Second, the series crossed 150 million copies in circulation, a figure announced around Jump Festa 2026. Third, MAPPA kept the anime engine running: a compilation film opened in Japan on November 7, 2025, and Season 3, The Culling Game Part 1, began airing on January 8, 2026. Consequently, every new viewer meets Sukuna at full power, and most of them go looking for a figure within weeks.

What this did to the Sukuna figure Maximatic on European shelves

The April 2025 Special Ver. landed in Europe weeks before the anniversary announcements. Meanwhile, Banpresto prize figures ship in fixed allocations per region, not on demand. As a result, the European allocation sold through quickly across the usual distributors, and I watched listings vanish while I “thought about it”. That is why the Sukuna Special Ver. Maximatic figure still in stock at Rare Inventory at €30 is the exception, not the rule.

Mistake 3: Chasing the Most Expensive JJK Figure Instead of the Best Shelf Piece

Every collector googles “most expensive JJK figure” at some point. I did too, and it almost derailed my collection. The answer at official retail is the Prime 1 Studio Concept Masterline Sukuna, a 1/6 scale diorama from 2023 priced at ¥75,790 for the regular edition and ¥90,090 for the DX, roughly €450 to €550 at launch exchange rates. It is magnificent. However, it is also a statue that needs its own shelf, its own lighting, and a courier who understands polystone.

Where the Maximatic line sits

Banpresto’s Maximatic line exists for a different job. It gives you an exaggerated, dynamic pose at 21 cm for the price of a dinner, and it ships in a box you can carry home on the Métro. Similarly, scale makers like Good Smile Company and Kotobukiya land somewhere in the middle, usually above €150 and often on pre-order for a year. In short, the Maximatic is the Sukuna most people actually display.

Tier

Example

Typical European price

Reality check

Prize figure

Banpresto Maximatic Sukuna Special Ver.

€30

Fixed allocation, sells through fast

Scale PVC

Good Smile and Kotobukiya releases

€150 to €250

Long pre-orders, import pricing

Premium statue

Prime 1 Studio Concept Masterline Sukuna

€450 to €550 at launch

Heavy, limited, insurance-level shipping

Above all, decide what the piece is for. If you want a centrepiece for a dedicated cabinet, save for the statue. Even so, buy the Maximatic first, because it costs less than the shipping on the statue and it fills the Sukuna-shaped gap today.

Mistake 4: Importing From Outside Europe to Save Ten Euros

I did this once with a Bandai prize figure in 2023 and I still remember the customs letter. A Japanese listing looked cheaper on paper. Then VAT, a carrier handling fee, and a two-week hold at the depot turned a bargain into a lesson.

How to avoid the surprise

For a €30 figure, any import outside the EU erases the saving before the box leaves the airport. Instead, buy from a shop that already holds the stock inside Europe. Rare Inventory ships from France, so an order to Berlin, Milan or Madrid moves as a domestic EU parcel with no customs step. UK buyers still clear the border, but the shop handles paperwork up front rather than leaving you to pay a courier at the door. Beyond that, a prize figure box crushes easily, and fewer handovers mean fewer dented corners on the Sukuna box art.

Explore the full collection

Figures, art toys & limited editions — shipped worldwide from France.

Shop now →

Mistake 5: Treating a Prize Figure Like a Reprint-Guaranteed Release

This is the mistake that explains why I missed the figure twice. I treated it like a Funko Pop, something that restocks forever. However, Banpresto prize figures work differently. They exist first as crane-game prizes in Japan, and overseas distribution runs as a single allocated wave. When that wave sells through, there is no reorder button.

What the 2022 to 2025 gap tells you

Banpresto took almost three years to revisit this sculpt, from April 2022 to April 2025. In fact, the company only returned to it as a repaint, not a reissue of the original paint. That is the usual pattern: the brand moves to a new sculpt or a new colourway rather than reprinting the exact same figure. Therefore, waiting “for the next reprint” of the Special Ver. means waiting for something that may never exist in that form. The next Sukuna from the line will likely be a different pose, and this specific brushed finish will become the version people ask about.

Rare Inventory Recommends

Our pick: The Sukuna Special Ver. Maximatic Figure by Banpresto at €30 is the one Sukuna every Jujutsu Kaisen shelf should carry. It delivers the 21 cm 2022 sculpt with the upgraded hand-brushed paint, and it ships from France with no customs step for EU buyers. Stock is a single allocation, so grab it while Rare Inventory still lists it.

Mistake 6: Displaying the Sukuna Figure Maximatic Like Any Other Prize Figure

Once you own it, the last mistake is wasting the paint job. The Special Ver. earns its name through shading, and shading needs light hitting it from above and slightly in front. I first put mine on a low shelf under a warm bulb, and the brushwork disappeared.

Setup that works

First, lift the figure to eye level, because the sculpt leans forward and reads best head-on. Next, use a cool white light above the piece so the chest markings cast real shadows. Additionally, keep it away from direct sun, since PVC yellows over years of UV exposure. Finally, give it space. The Maximatic pose is wide at the shoulders, and crowding it with smaller figures kills the drama Banpresto built into the sculpt.

Where to Buy

The Sukuna Special Ver. The shop is based in France and ships across Europe, including the UK, so EU orders arrive without customs charges. Most importantly, this is a single-allocation prize figure, and it will not be listed forever.

Rare Inventory, a curated space for rare and collectible culture.

Is the Sukuna Maximatic Special Ver. a different sculpt from the 2022 figure?

No. Banpresto reused the April 2022 MAXIMATIC THE SUKUNA body at 21 cm and added extra brush painting for the Special Ver., which released on April 17, 2025.

How tall is the Sukuna Maximatic figure?

It stands 21 cm, made of painted PVC and ABS, non-articulated and non-scale, in a fist-clenched pose with Sukuna’s signature grin.

What is the most expensive JJK figure at official retail?

Prime 1 Studio’s 1/6 scale Concept Masterline Sukuna from 2023 tops the list, priced at ¥75,790 for the regular edition and ¥90,090 for the DX edition.

Will Banpresto reprint the Sukuna Special Ver.?

Banpresto rarely reissues an exact prize figure.
