Best Limited Edition UNO Collabs Ranked: From Takashi Murakami to Studio Ghibli
UNO has been the world’s most played card game since 1971. But over the last decade, Mattel transformed it into something else entirely: a collectible art object. Through its Mattel Creations line and the UNO Artiste Series, the classic deck has crossed paths with contemporary artists, anime franchises, music icons, and pop culture legends. The result is a new category of collectible that sits at the intersection of game night and gallery wall.
At Rare Inventory, we’ve curated the best of those collabs. Here’s our ranking, from the most playable to the most collectible.
8. UNO Tom and Jerry x Mattel
The most casual entry on this list. Tom and Jerry artwork brings the chaos of the classic cartoon straight to the deck, making it a fun gift for fans of the franchise. Playable, accessible, and a solid entry point into UNO collecting.
7. UNO Dragon Ball x Mattel
Goku, Vegeta, Frieza and the rest of the Dragon Ball universe take over the classic deck with bold artwork that captures the energy of the anime. One of the most popular editions on this list for a reason: Dragon Ball collectors and UNO fans overlap more than you’d think.
6. UNO Super Mario x Mattel
Nintendo’s most iconic franchise meets the world’s most played card game. The special Mario Super Star Card mechanic adds a genuine gameplay twist, letting you bounce Draw 4 and Draw 2 cards back to your opponent. One of the few collabs where the gameplay change actually works.
5. UNO Gold Edition
No collab, no franchise. Just UNO in its most premium form. The metallic aesthetic and refined finish make this the most display-worthy standard edition Mattel has ever released. A grail for minimalists.
4. UNO Canvas Peanuts x Mattel
Celebrating 75 years of the Peanuts legacy, this Canvas edition showcases the evolution of the comic’s art style, combining black-and-white illustrations with full-color scenes. Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the gang have never looked this good on a card.
3. UNO Canvas The Beatles x Mattel
Where music history meets card game culture. The Beatles artwork across a full UNO deck is genuinely stunning, making this one of the strongest canvas editions Mattel has released. A crossover that makes sense for collectors of both music memorabilia and designer games.
2. UNO x Studio Ghibli My Neighbor Totoro
Every single card illustrated with scenes and characters from Hayao Miyazaki’s most beloved film. Totoro, the Catbus, Satsuki, Mei and the soot sprites across 112 cards. This is the edition that proves UNO collabs can function as genuine art objects. Extremely hard to find outside Japan.
1. UNO Artiste Series No. 5: Takashi Murakami x Mattel
The UNO Artiste Series is Mattel’s groundbreaking line honoring influential contemporary creators, with each deck including four double-sided UNO Artiste Extra cards that combine to create larger pieces of artwork. Takashi Murakami’s entry, released in 2022 as Series No. 5, is the standout of the entire line. His Superflat aesthetic, smiling flowers and Mr. DOB characters transform every card into a display-worthy art piece. This is the rarest and most sought-after UNO collab ever produced, and the only one that genuinely belongs in a Murakami collection alongside vinyl figures and limited prints.
